Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  Which category should I register for?

A:  The competitive mile races are open to everyone - you do not need to be an elite runner to join the competitive men's or women's mile races.  Anyone who wants to know how fast they can run a mile should register for the competitive race of their gender.

Q:  Will I receive a race shirt with my entry?

A:  To keep registration prices low, race singlets (shirts) are available for a limited time as an additional-price option.  Singlets are gender specific.  Men's singlets are bright orange and women's are bright green.  Singlets can be ordered for $12 each until August 18.  A limited number may be available for sale at the event.

Q:  Can I pick up my race bib before race day?

A:  Advanced check-in will be held on Friday, September 6 from 4-7 pm at My Way Tavern at 522 St Mary's Street in Raleigh.  My Way will donate 10% of sales to our race charity, the ALS Association of NC.  Those who do not check-in in advance may do so at the race on Sunday 9/8 starting at 12:30 pm.

Q:  May I run with my dog or with a baby jogger?

A:  We love dogs, too, but our insurance does NOT allow dogs on the race course.  Those who want to run with baby joggers should register for the Recreational Mile so that they do not impede runners trying to set their Personal Record.

Q:  Can my son or daughter run with me even though he/she is not the same gender as me?

A:  You CAN choose to have your son or daughter run with you - just be sure to register your child in same race as you, regardless of your child's gender.

Q:  Is the race held if it is raining?

A:  The race will be held rain or shine, but may be cancelled in the case of dangerous weather conditions such as lightning, high winds, and/or flooding.  (There are no refunds in the case that this charity event must be cancelled for safety reasons.)

Q:  What prizes are awarded at the Post-Race Party?

A:  All registered runners in the men's and women's competitive mile are eligible for these prizes which are based on "gun time".

Q:  Is the course certified?  Is it flat?

A:  The course is USATF Certified (NC 15067DF).  For a road race course in Raleigh, it is flat, with 49 feet of elevation change over the mile course.  There are no right-angle turns on the course.  The out-and-back course on Hillsborough Street includes a run around the roundabout at Hillsborough and Morgan Street.
